Interview is a pivotal moment in your job search. It is a time to present your best self and demonstrate why you are the ideal candidate for the role. Yet, the thought fills you with nervousness. Why should we hire you?“ is one of the common interview questions. Beyond this question, many employers use a standard set of questions to assess your qualifications and fit for the role. You can get good responses to these questions when you familiarise yourself with them.

Common interview questions to expect

Tell me about yourself: This is usually the icebreaker. It is a chance to set the tone for the interview and focus on your career journey.

What are your strengths and weaknesses? Employers want to assess your self-awareness. A strong answer here involves mentioning strengths that directly apply to the role and weaknesses you are actively improving.

Where do you see yourself in five years? This question helps interviewers gauge your career goals and whether you are likely to be a long-term fit.

Why do you want to work here? Employers want to see if you have done your research and whether you are genuinely interested in their company.

Why should we hire you?

Your answer should reflect your skills and how they align with the company’s goals and values.There are three things you need to consider here.

Technical Skills: Highlight your relevant hard skills that match the job description. Be specific and mention any industry tools, software, or expertise that you have mastered.

Soft Skills: Employers are increasingly looking for soft skills like communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities. A LinkedIn study found that 92% of hiring professionals consider soft skills equally or more important than hard skills. Relate your soft skills to the needs of the role.

Company Values: Lastly, align your personal values with the company’s mission, culture, or core values. This shows that you have researched the company and you are also interested in what they do.

Example
